There will be many new business IT developments in the new year including Windows ARM computing but advances in pocketable computers are also very likely.
The IT industry has spent much time over the years making pocketable computers thinner. Think of old casios from the 90s, old Nokias, palm pilots, palm Treo, jasjam and the more recent iOS and android pocketables of the last decade. All are getting thinner with time.
Since specs, battery life and screen size are the three most obvious limitations of today’s pocketable, it is foreseeable that foldable pocketables may be the new frontier from 2018/19 onwards. (Because unfolding allows all of these issues to be solved)
If you accept that “folding” is the future of pocketable computing, then the huge irony is that our pocketables are going to get thicker and heavier again for a while ie initially closer to two current devices thick! Return of the “phone brick”?
Ah.. the cycles of innovation.
